Hot Shot Truck Insurance Requirements

Rev Insurance works only with the trucking industry. Truckers who haul hot Shot loads have unique insurance requirements. Shippers will require you have your insurance with certificates in place before loading.

  • Cargo coverage protects the freight hauled by truckers. While the minimum required coverage is $5,000, most brokers will request a minimum of $100,000 in cargo insurance.
  • Most load brokers will require you carry a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance. Talk to your agent about custom policies.
  • Although not required, physical damage coverage for your truck and trailer is highly recommended.
  • Get a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Required in many states, a CDL will lower your insurance rates.
  • If you cross state lines, you will need a DOT number and an MC number.
  • MCS-150 and BOC-3 filings.
  • IRP (International Registration Plan) for your truck and PTI (Permanent Trailer Identification) for your trailer.
